Solar Lighting Downsides

in The Downside

Being able to use the power of the sun is so much more efficient these days due to advances in technology throughout the years. If you are trying to become less dependent on traditional sources of energy, solar lights are a great way to supplement your lifestyle. It is amazing that we are able to collect power from energy that is produced from rays of the sun. As great as it might be, there are still several issues that need to be addressed before solar power will become mainstream in our daily lives.

One of the largest drawbacks to solar power is that its not always available to us. Dependability can be a major concern for many since there is no guarantee that the sun will shine on any given day. Due to this hiccup in this technology, batteries are used to collect and store energy so that there is power available at times when the sun is not shining. Rechargeable batteries are used in many systems to collect the power during the day when the sun is shining. Solar lights can usually run about 8 hours on average at night. Rainy or cloudy days could prevent the batteries from being fully charged which could cause your lighting to prematurely die out. How much sun you get and where you live are just a few variables that could determine whether or not solar lights are right for you.

Outdoor solar lighting might disappoint you if you already have low voltage lighting installed in your lawn. Since they don’t have have a continuous flow of electricity, solar lights tend to be a lot dimmer than some low voltage systems. This is a major drawback for some people who are looking for the brightest lights they can find. As the batteries are being drained, solar lighting will fade through the night. You might get caught in the dark if you are one of those people who likes to entertain well into the evening. This is another annoyance that some people find when researching solar lights. Your needs and expectations are different from other people so just take these small downsides into consideration before you make an investment into this new technology.
