Some of the major benefits of solar lights are that they are easy to install. Each of the lights is an individual unit. Installation usually includes only staking the light into the ground. Most solar lights for the garden come with a pointed post which only requires a good push into the selected spot.
Solar lights for the garden are weather resistant and can withstand rain, sleet and snow. If properly installed, pushed deep enough into the ground, they will be resistant to wind. Lights not secured to the full depth of the point may tilt in heavy winds.

As with so many products, you get what you pay for. Solar garden lights purchased at the local discount stores generally look cheap and are made of plastic. Many manufacturers offer solar landscape lights made of metal or wood, but at prices higher than one would pay in a lower end retail store.
If ordering online, it is recommended that one inquire as to the weight (the gauge) of the metal before purchasing. Sometimes the pictures look much better than the real thing. Also, it is wise to ask about the light output and if the lights are LED. LED lights have been found to produce better and brighter light.
At the present time, unless the solar garden lights are made to your personal specification, one can expect lighting sufficient for low level disbursement to be used primarily as decorative lighting.
