As a gardener, you have probably been considering what kind of lighting you might benefit from in your garden; highlight the fruits of your labor with garden lights. Some gardeners like to throw different vegetables, herbs and decorative plants here and there, while others enjoy making a detailed plan for each and every space. To make an excellent lighting display for your garden you need to sketch out at least a rough outline of what type of lights and where they will be located.
Consider a few large floodlights or spotlights for security and safety purposes. If money is a big concern you would be well to consider solar garden lighting and LED lights. Once you pay for the solar lights, you will not be running up the power bill. Candle lanterns will only cost you for the candles unless you opt for electric candles.
Most lanterns for candles, oil and kerosene create a warm glow through out the garden. People so often forget about setting up motion detectors and light timers; it is a great time to install these while you are working on the lighting system.
Consider where you will lay out shallow trenching for power cables if required and what positions in the garden you would place solar lights to effectively capture and charge them from the sun. Power cables need not be buried but can be covered with mulch for aesthetics. What kind of lighting do you want to use for pathways, garden gates and possibly steps?
Pole, torches and bollards lighting are all useful forms of lighting to provide large areas of light over parts of the garden. Be sure and take advantage of down lighting where lights shine up into gazebos, archways, fountains or beautifully shaped trees.
With a bit of planning you can create a beautiful evening lighting display providing functionality and security with inexpensive garden lights.
